Eagle Fest

Eagle Fest
During the month of October the school and the community come together and have a weekend filled with fun and excitement.

The Beginning
Eagle Fest began 4-5 years ago, when the school spirit committee and Athletic Department got together looking for new ways to get students and the community more involved with the school events. They were also looking for ways to raise money for sports. They came up with the idea of Eagle Fest.

What is Eagle Fest
A weekend in October is when Eagle Fest begins. On Friday there are three main events that are held a parade, soccer game, and a dance. Throughout the week 9-12 grade students make floats for the soccer team and game that is usually held that Friday. The theme is based on the team we will be up against. The parade starts near the end of the school day at Boney Park, goes down the Main Street, and end at the back of the school. There is more involved in the parade then the floats. All the fall sports teams soccer, volleyball, cross country, choir, equestrian, and the junior high basketball teams all get different trailers or trucks to ride on through the parade, there is also a fire truck and cop car. During the parade the street is filled with a lot of people from the community. School also gets out early so all the elementary and middle school can watch the parade as well.

Soccer Game
After the parade the students and teachers get to leave school and go get ready for the soccer game that night. The soccer game is a big hit. Our biggest crowd out of the year is during this soccer game during the weekend of Eagle Fest. Eagle Fest is not all about the game though it also includes the dance, car show, and more.

Dance

After the game there is a dance held at Fairview School for the soccer team. It is a public dance so teens from Mio and other schools come. It’s a great way for people from other schools to get to see our school and meet some of the students. During the dance we either have a limbo or piñata game for the soccer team. The other students can also join in the games as well.

Car Show
The car show is held at the front of the school all day Saturday. Many people show up with their cars for other people in the community to come and see. There are cars like old Thunderbirds, Corvettes, Comoros, and Mustangs, just to name a few. There is also a DJ up in the front with the cars, which lets people know about the events going on through the day.

History
Eagle Fest use to be two different festivals. Fall Fest and Eagle Fest. Friday used to be called Fall Fest when the parade, soccer game, and dance were held. Friday was called Fall Fest because the dance was called the Fall Fest Dance. Saturday was called Eagle Fest when the car show, craft show, and chicken BBQ were held. The school change the names to just Eagle Fest in the 2008.

Craft Show
Inside the school in the gym is where the craft show is held. There are a lot of neat crafts that people make and bring to the show. One of the locals here in Fairview brings in ceramics that she makes. They are a big hit with most the community. There is also a chicken BBQ held outside usually on the side of the school. There are volunteers who come and cook the chicken, usually a team will make it and sell to raise money to play. So, you will get fresh chicken.
